Our class trip took place on a somewhat overcast morning at the beautiful  Lough Lannagh in Castlebar. The path around the lake makes for an ideal walk. For an novice like myself it proved a really interesting morning. It forced me to see detail in the landscape I would not normally take any notice of. For the first number of photos I  left the setting at auto and simply took some random photos. Below is one of them.

As I mentioned the morning was overcast, but nonetheless we managed to get some interesting results. For this photo I tried to implement the rule of thirds. The path and the fishing line divide the photo horizontally, while the group of trees and the space between the first group and the smaller second group divide it on the vertical plane. The reflection from the lake made an interesting effect.

Above is another example of how I tried to keep the main subject matter in the first third vertically. It makes for a more interesting image. In the past  any photo's I would have taken  would have had the main subject centered, resulting in similar looking photos.
